I am Elvis

I Am Elvis is a collection of intimate portraits
featuring impersonators who attended the
Collingwood Elvis Festival in 2007. These
portraits are a telling study of the faces of
those who live to embody a larger-than-life
figure, “the King” – one of the most popular icons
in rock and roll history. Henrieta Haniskova’s
photographs explore the power evoked in re-living
Elvis’ memory, for both the performers who don his
attire, as well as the fans who seek out a
fictitious connection with the past. This
exhibition also addresses the influence that the
media brandishes in creating a legacy of
star-power.
