CONTACT is a Toronto-based non-profit organization dedicated to exhibiting, analyzing, and celebrating photography and lens-based media through an annual festival that takes place every May.
-
The CONTACT Photography Festival is an annual city-wide festival that began in 1997. It encompasses exhibitions, public art installations, and programs that feature the work of local and international lens-based artists every May.
The Festival’s Core Program brings together exhibitions and public programs presented in partnership with museums, galleries, and artist-run centres throughout the GTA and beyond.
The Open Call Exhibitions extend the festival’s community through the inclusion of independently organized modes of publicly presenting lens based work across the city.
-
The Photobook Lab champions photobooks through a year-round reading room and store. During the Festival the Lab presents a roster of programs that investigate contemporary approaches to photobooks and more. The Lab is a young initiative that is being nurtured to grow into a rigorous and playful leader on photobook publishing, experimentation, and conversation.
-
CONTACT’s year-round programs complement the festival, and support artists in the process, articulation, production, and display of their work through artist talks, online interviews, and more. SUSTENANCE is the organization’s new mentorship residency that supports and nurtures lens-based artists living and working in the GTA. Full details on this invitation-only initiative will be announced soon.
