Scotiabank Scholarship Winners
Scotiabank is proud to partner with two esteemed
agencies,
the CONTACT Toronto Photography Festival and Magnum
Photos, supporting the advancement of photography.
For the
second year, Scotiabank, in partnership with
Magnum Photos,
has sponsored five Scotiabank Scholarships to
attend the
Magnum Workshop. The Workshop was held recently in
Toronto, benefitting Canadian photography students
currently
enrolled in an educational institution in Canada, or
abroad.
The following five students are our 2009 Scotiabank
Scholarship winners:
Darren Rigo
Dareen is a third year BFA student at OCAD. She
has recently exhibited her work both at Toronto’s
Harbourfront Centre Gallery and Steam Whistle
Brewery Gallery. Dareen’s photography has also
been featured in Verge and Untitled Magazines.
Michaelina Nielsen
Michaelina is in her third year pursuing a BA in Image
Arts & Photography at Toronto’s Ryerson University.
She has been published in media such as Function,
McClungs, Oh George! and POUND Magazine.
Michelina’s work has been exhibited in many locations
across Ontario, from Solanum Tuberosum, Forest City
Galleries and several shows at Ryerson for
photography.
Brendan George Ko
Brendan is in his third year of a BFA in Photographic
Arts at Ontario College of Art and Design. Recent
exhibitions include shows at Toronto’s Minnow & Bass
Gallery, Edward Day Gallery, Xpace, TPW Gallery and
Sidewalk Film Festival in Alabama, Tennessee.
Erin Riley
Erin is pursing her M.F.A. in Documentary Media
at Toronto’s Ryerson University. She specializes in
documentary photo stories and location based
portraiture. Editorially her work has appeared in
publications such as National Post, Chill, Toronto
Sun,
Ottawa Citizen L’Expert and with Random House
Publishing. Erin has exhibited recently at Pearson
International Airport, Hotshot Gallery and The
Gathering Space.
Noah Bingham
Noah is pursuing a BFA with a minor in Film Production
International Development Studies at York University.
Noah’s recent cinematographer film and video
productions include Raas Project—a documentary
about South Asian dance troupes on the American
university competition circuit and Criterion Cell—a
short documentary about ideas and realities of the
Canadian prison system, through the eyes of two
repeat inmates.
