Osheen Harruthoonyan Nocturna Artificialia

May 1–30,  2010

Osheen Harruthoonyan’s sumptuous photographic prints evoke the uncertain flashes encountered at the threshold of a dream. Combining traditional large-format photography with a variety of analog photo manipulation techniques, Harruthoonyan skillfully renders his subjects within ethereally illusive environments. The fastidious striations and cracks of his transformed film negatives become esoteric anomalies that evoke echoes of slumbering vision. 918 Bathurst is a centre that supports culture, arts, media and education. Following 918’s mandate for community involvement, art development, and multimedia practices, the May 15th reception will feature Organiks, Alembics, Abstrakts by Blaine Speigel; a multiple projection spatial installation featuring film-based images made using a variety of photographic and alchemical processes. Both exhibitions are presented in collaboration with Lonsdale Gallery. See also www.contact918.com for details on our global community photography project. Curated by Li Koo and Stanzie Tooth.
