Martha Griffith Busby Barbie

May 10–23,  2012

The Busby Barbie series explores manicured human and urban landscapes. Griffith’s decals, created using Barbie silhouettes, are inspired by the choreography of Busby Berkeley and made from materials such as fake grass, slip clay, and plastic garbage bags. These temporary installations are placed along various rivers that run into Lake Ontario, then photographed. The women signify manicured Mother Nature and the constructed built
environment.
