Jimmy Limit with Self Publish, Be Happy

Self Publish, Be Happy invites the public to partake in a performance by Jimmy Limit. Participants will be asked to create work instead of the artist, literally receiving a set of instructions on how to make a Jimmy Limit photograph. Such images will then be printed – first become an exhibition and later a publication.  The performance / game will offer an insight into the artist's practice, while questioning authorship and originality, and exploring the relationship between sculpture and photography.

This event will take place at the The CONTACT Gallery Pop-Up located down the hall from the CONTACT Gallery.

Jimmy Limit’s recent exhibitions combined his long-standing interest in self-publishing and photography with a new fascination: ceramics and sculpture. He has exhibited throughout Canada and the United States, including exhibitions at Rodman Hall/Brock University, St Catharines; Clint Roenisch Gallery, Toronto; Mercer Union, Toronto; Butcher Gallery, Toronto; Emporium, Montreal; Melanie Flood Projects, New York; Printed Matter, New York and POV Evolving Gallery, Los Angeles. His work has been featured in publications including Bad Day, The New York Times and Frieze. Limit received a BFA from the Ontario College of Art and Design in 2012. He lives and works in Saint Catharines, Ontario.

Self Publish, Be Happy is an organization founded by Bruno Ceschel in 2010 that collects, studies and celebrates self-published photobooks through an ongoing programme of workshops, live events and on/offline projects. Self Publish, Be Happy has organized events at a number of institutions around the world, including The Photographer’s Gallery, ICA, Serpentine Galleries, C/O Berlin, Aperture Foundation and Kunsthal Charlottenborg amongst others.
Self Publish, Be Happy London-based collection contains more than 2,000 publications.
