Elizabeth Zvonar Ageless Ambiguity

Elizabeth Zvonar collages images into pictures from existing photographs, sketches, and typography she finds in mass-produced magazines and books spanning a range of topics from fashion and art history to sport, leisure, and politics. The act of cutting something out of its context to alter its intention proposes new objectives with a myriad of meanings. Zvonar’s work is best understood through the lens of the metaphysical. She uses humour and aesthetics to take notice of the human and economic discrepancies held in place through archaic hierarchical structures. Because we navigate through massive amounts of visual information daily, Zvonar’s work highlights our ability to synthesize what we see, thinking through metaphor and finding meaning in the omissions, repetitions, and juxtapositions.
