Michael Kenna: Japan

Bau-Xi Gallery presents Michael Kenna: Japan, an on-going series that documents the artist’s travels in Japan: a nation that he has visited countless times for over 30 years. Upon visiting Japan in the 1980’s, Kenna became deeply fascinated with the culture, landscape and general aesthetic of the country. Influenced by the “sense of serenity, tranquility, pureness and simplicity of design,” Kenna draws parallels between his minimalist aesthetic and the essence of the haiku.
