Henry VanderSpek Old World Shoes

When a small business closes after decades in operation, who celebrates what they brought to their community over the years? Moved by this question, Toronto photographer VanderSpek documented some twenty independent shoe and shoe repair stores in Toronto, several of which have closed since he began in late 2017. Images and voices illuminate stories of immigration and the ways that old-world skills have brought vibrant style and culture to Toronto.
