Anthony Fieldman Before the Fall

Apr 29–May 28,  2023

Children are the best of us. They are, for the most part, deeply present in their daily lives. Often mirthful, they aim that weightlessness toward unfiltered exploration. They see playmates, not labels; opportunities, not limits. They are wildly creative, fashioning worlds and practices for the fun of it—not to control outcomes.

Children don’t judge or fear the world until they learn to do so from adults. Children point the way for adults to recapture the spark and optimism that our younger selves harness to great effect. Adults don’t have to lose these things. They simply allow themselves to for a host of reasons, not the least of which is because we were once taught to let go of “childish things.”

The artist photographs children to remind the viewer of how beautiful the world can be.
