Danny Custodio Flower Carpets/Tapetes Floridos

Each year during religious festivals, citizens on the island of Sao Miguel, Azores line the streets with carpets made of flowers for people to walk on during processions. As a way to reconnect, Custodio created his own flower carpets using wooden frames passed down by family and found flowers and plants from around his current landscape, the Niagara Region. Custodio wants the viewer to take away a sense of cultural history, family, and pride that connects traditions from the past to their present.
