David Addington Call me on my payphone

May 19–21,  2023

This series documents a collection of the remaining payphones scattered throughout Toronto. Today, payphones have diminished to the point of near obsolescence. They are easily ignored as they blend into their atmosphere on aging stores and graffitied walls. Similar to an old stereo amplifier, their boxy design appears alien in the current technological and design context.

While no longer ubiquitous on the streetscape, payphones are still out there. However, it seems inevitable that they will soon be gone and relegated as an artifact, signalling an end to a significant piece of urban infrastructure.
