“My Babcia, Maria Tietz, was born in Poland in 1932. She would share stories of her childhood with great vibrancy until a stroke in 2021, where she found herself living in a nursing home with dementia. Her house in Scarborough was a safe haven, and early on in her move she demanded bus fare to return. In some ways we are all left scrambling for our reminders of home. If I could bring it all back, I would. This long-term documentary study of my Babcia are my attempts at such. Everything is changing, but we hold onto our love regardless.” — Emily Battaglini
