Pengkuei Ben Huang Coastal Mammoth: The Great Sea Wall Of Japan

The Elaine Fleck Gallery proudly presents Coastal Mammoth, a photography series by gallery artist Pengkuei Ben Huang. This body of work focuses on the reconstructed seawall along the 400km stretch of the northeastern coast of Japan, a decade after the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami in 2011.

It surveys the newly formed artificial shoreline and explores the evolving relationship of the region’s coastal ecosystem under the new barriers while examining the effectiveness of such structures as the method of disaster prevention in the era of climate change.
