Allison Morris The Living Room

The Living Room explores the shared tension within, and the distinction between, domestic space and the body. Both the home and the body can provide a sense of security and a space for freedom or self-expression. However, they can also be confining sites of subordination and anxiety. By transforming the artist’s body into the domestic space itself, this photographic self-portrait blurs the boundary between body and home, bringing these tensions to light.

Allison Morris is a fine art photographer based in Tkaronto (Toronto), Canada. Her practice explores themes of beauty, identity, performance and the construction of femininity. Drawing on the history of women portrayed in art, she uses self-portraiture and traditionally feminized materials to challenge the boundaries of the feminine body and its entangled relationship to objects.
