Sasha Chapman SHADOWLAND

Ravines are Toronto’s defining topographical feature; they are also its defining metaphorical feature. Dark, mysterious, and often irrational, they function—as Margaret Atwood has suggested—as the city’s unconscious.

Writer and photographer Sasha Chapman creates a soundscape and “forest” of images to immerse and implicate viewers in a ravine underworld. Set amongst the historic kilns of Evergreen Brick Works, SHADOWLAND interrogates human-centric ways of thinking and guides us towards mythic and ecological understanding.

Installation hours may differ from general operating hours; please check the Evergreen website for up-to-date information.
