Nathan Cyprys G44: Lighting Intensive – Photographing People
$150 G44 members / $175 non-members
In this 6-hour Lighting Intensive: Photographing People workshop led by Nathan Cyprys, participants will learn the intricacies of strobe lighting techniques, both in-studio and on-site. This intensive experience is designed to elevate participants’ understanding and mastery of lighting, with a specific focus on photographing people in diverse settings.
From the fundamentals to advanced strategies, participants will explore artificial strobe lighting and its seamless integration with natural and constant light sources, such as daylight and LED lights. This fusion of lighting sources expands creative possibilities, empowering participants to craft dynamic images in any environment, with skills to problem-solve lighting challenges.
Throughout the workshop, emphasis is placed on hands-on learning and experimentation. Participants will delve into the strategic use of light modifiers, including softboxes, beauty dishes, grids, and more, to achieve desired effects and enhance the mood of their photographs. These tools play a pivotal role in shaping the quality and direction of light, allowing participants to express their artistic vision with precision. Additionally, participants will refine their control over lighting through practical exercises using tools such as reflectors, flags, and gels. These tools enable participants to fine-tune the characteristics of light, adding depth and dimension to their images.
Participants are encouraged to bring along a reference image that captures a lighting style they admire but find elusive to replicate. Our goal is to demystify the techniques and equip participants with the proficiency to recreate captivating lighting scenarios. During the workshop, student volunteers will serve as models, providing participants with the opportunity to test and refine their lighting setups in real-time. This approach fosters skill development, enhancing confidence for their own photoshoots.
