Ana Raquel Guarichas

Reception
-

Guarichas (warrior women) is a photo- and textile-based exhibition that showcases Ana Raquel’s old family photographs as well as her own of Latin American women. Together, these images work together as a universal portrait, an archetype, of the women of the mestizaje. These portraits on canvas honour the resilience and strength of the Latin American women by incorporating their textile methods, which served to preserve their culture, their history and their territory. Raquel's body of work reclaims the term Guaricha—which was turned into an insult by colonizers of Latin America—and pays homage to these agents of resistance.
