In 2005, Bernard Leroux and K.J. McCusker, then vice-president and president of the Métis Artists Collective, locked themselves in the studio for three days of intense creative production. The ABstract Louis Riel is the result of their collaboration. This series of panels composites archival materials, photos, maps, letters and documents—which are often heavily processed, enlarged or otherwise manipulated to depict many of the flashpoints and contemplations on the life and times of Louis Riel. The colourful panels weave together impressions and meditations on the turbulent times.
