Lola Drewery KEEP COOL

Lola Drewery’s Keep Cool offers an intimate glimpse into the realities of tree planting. Every summer, young Canadians venture into the wilderness to participate in this labour-intensive rite of passage. Captured during Drewery’s rookie season, these black-and-white photographs emphasize the intensity of a job rooted in gruelling, backbreaking labour. Yet, they also reveal the rugged beauty of the environment and work it demands. Named after the phrase stamped on sapling boxes, Keep Cool encapsulates the spirit of those who dedicate their summers to planting the seeds—literally and metaphorically—for a greener future for themselves and Canada.
