Facilitated by Tamsin Green, founder of the Sustainable Photobook Publishing (SPP) network, this two-day workshop will develop ecological frameworks for the making of photobooks. Participants will explore the physical aspects of the book (materials, binding, size) and how these relate to methods of circulation. The workshop will combine short talks, practical activities, group discussions, and engagement with the wider photobook ecosystem through conversations with guest speakers, local printers, and collections managers.

Participants will be asked to bring a selection of images from a project that they are working on. This could be at any stage of development. Working with these images within a digital collaborative space, we will develop both individual and collective approaches to sustainability. These approaches will be risograph printed and bound together in the workshop to take away as inspiration for future projects.

The workshop will culminate with a public discussion session on the evening of Tuesday, May 6 where participants will discuss and share their findings.

Registration and requirements:

– No book-making experience required
– This workshop will have a maximum of eight (8) participants
– Participants will be asked to bring a selection of digital images from an ongoing project
– Physical prints and/or book dummies to support your project are also welcomed
