If you live in Toronto, you are likely familiar with “Notice of Development” signs. They can be found throughout the downtown core. Henry VanderSpek was inspired to document these signs as a way of marking impending change and the varied responses such change elicits.

On Notice is accompanied by a screening of Excluded by Design, a short documentary (which includes some of VanderSpek’s images) featuring community organizer Dave Meslin, followed by a Q&A. Together, the photo exhibition and film aim to provoke conversations on the use of public notices and the methods cities can use to encourage civic engagement.
