Kristan Klimczak: The Ex

-

The Canadian National Exhibition is an odd and encompassing consumer capitalistic ritual that emerges from a giant parking lot to mark the end of summer each year. Toronto-based artist Kristan Klimczak has photographed the fair since 2015.

Historically framed by the City of Toronto Archives archivists from their collections, Klimczak will discuss and present selected images from her long term project, The Ex.

  • Kristan Klimczak lives in Toronto and is drawn to making photographs in places that have long standing shared routines. She published her first photobook, You Lucky People, in 2019. For the book, she photographed the iconic independent bargain superstore, Honest Eds, from its final months through its demolition in an attempt to archive how it feels to lose an integral part of a city and its character. She recently published a zine titled Crossing Time and received a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts. Her work has appeared in Aint Bad, Antics Publications’ Journal of Grievances, CBC Arts, Der Greif, Hamburger Eyes, Now Magazine, Schlag Magazine and Toronto Life.
