Half of the earth’s life-giving force, photosynthesis, comes from land plants. The other half comes from the sea. These images by Gitte Hansen amplify the small details of this other world. Inspired by underwater forests of seaweed, their images capture marine life by bringing together the natural and digital world and reframing this powerful, yet vulnerable, environment. Digital photographs are enhanced with a layer of screen-printed seaweed images. The result is a recording of an underwater landscape that is forever changing, and forever inspiring strong connections to a particular place and time.
