Finn O'Hara Southern Lights

The wind-swept pine tree is an iconic reference to the best-known subject matter of the Group of Seven. This series augments the collective memory we have of those paintings; the idea of losing the landscapes that inspired the Group is truly frightening. But today we find ourselves with an Ontario government that trades in public land with foreign corporations; even where Thompson and Jackson painted is under threat of development. Photographed in Georgian Bay, these photos inspire a broader conversation for Canadians about our natural resources, land conservancy, and how we value our national-identity-defining wild spaces.
