Jason van Bruggen 80 FACES OF FREEDOM

Reception
-

To commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands, Jason van Bruggen photographed and interviewed 80 Dutch survivors of the Second World War.

Together their stories weave together a complex history of what occupation meant for the Dutch, incorporating memories of those who survived and those who perished. Both the artist’s father and mother lived through this period, and he was raised on their stories.

The project will launch in both Canada (whose soldiers liberated the Netherlands) and Holland starting on May 5th, 2025. A series of installations, motion picture narratives will live in public spaces and musea in both countries.
